FF Amman
Font in the city
It all started when Ahmad Humeid invited German designer Yanone to create an Arabic/Latin typeface for Amman’s municipality. Ahmad is the CEO of Jordanian design and branding office SYNTAX, Yanone a young designer who was, at the time, working to complete his graduation project at Bauhaus University (Weimar). Both finished the work in time for Amman’s centennial celebrations, in 2009. Entitled FF Amman, the new font is now being used for several municipal services in the Jordanian capital. The 21-minute film titled New (type) face for Amman is a journey into the font’s making-of, displaying interviews with designers Ahmad Humeid, Ahmad Sabbagh, Roba Al-Assi, Zeina Darwatsah, Ibrahim Owais and Yanone.
